  • Random Access Memory (RAM) is a essential component of your PCs, game consoles and smartphones.
  • RAM allows your computer to run programs efficiently by temporarily storing all the information required to complete computational tasks. This prevents the need to access to long term storage like a hard drive(HHD) or solid state drive(SSD). Accessing long term storage is a comparably slow process to accessing RAM.
  • RAM is efficiently accessible result of a direct connection to the CPU via the data bus.
  • Each address in RAM corresponds to a singe byte and these bytes are able to be accessed in any order (hence the name random access memory).
  • RAM is considered “volatile” technology meaning that once your computation device loses power all of the information stored in RAM disappears. This is where HHD’s and SDD’s step in.
